The Rocky Mountain Multiple Sclerosis Center provides clinic and community-based care and education for individuals with multiple sclerosis. Founded in 1978, the private, nonprofit organization celebrates its25th anniversary in 2003.
Patient care includes new diagnoses, second opinions, symptom management and coordinated treatment plans. Specialty services include disability evaluations, bowel, bladder and sexuality evaluations, a wellness program and a complementary and alternative medicine program. The patients come from a broad area in Colorado and neighboring states. Pride is taken in spending time with patients, especially early in the disease, to foster better understanding of the disease and formulate individual plans with each patient to help them move forward.
Research efforts include management of a brain tissue bank and donor program that makes tissue available to scientists around the world. Other research studies are available to patients of the MS Center both locally and nationally.
In the community, the Center operates the King Adult Day Enrichment Program that provides day services for people with MS and respite for their families. Hydrotherapy classes are offered in different locations in the Denver area. The Rocky Mountain MS Center also presents educational programs and sponsors support groups for both people with MS and their caregivers.
