Multiple Sclerosis Center of the Lehigh Valley The MS Center of the Lehigh Valley is designed to help persons with
MS and their families improve their quality of life. We offer access to current
scientific information and education about MS. We also provide quality medical
care and opportunities to participate in research on MS or attend educational
programs and support group meetings. You are welcome here whether you are newly
diagnosed or have lived with MS for years.
Services
MS Day Hospital at the Good Shepherd Rehabilitation - This
unique day program is based on a medical-social model and specifically designed
for persons who require socialization, comprehensive services and expertise
of a rehabilitation hospital but do not require 24-hour nursing care or one-to-one
supervision.
Human Performance Sports Medicine Center - This facility
at 1243 S. Cedar Crest Boulevard, Allentown, offers an exercise program designed
specifically for individual with MS.
National MS Society Peer Counselor - This individual, who
is on the staff of the MS Society, assists patients with details regarding
insurance coverage, disability questions, legal issues, assistive devices
and support groups.
Psychiatrist - This mental health professional is available
to provide treatments to MS patients and their family members for emotional,
psychiatric, adjustment and quality of life issues or complications
Continence Specialist - Urologist addresses problems of
sexual dysfunction and incontinence in men and women.
Pain Management - This service deals with the management
of the chronic pain that is related to MS.
Clinical Counselor - This master"s level professional offers
counseling in disease acceptance and stress management.
Bladder Screening - This service involves noninvasive monitoring
of urinary retention
Education
The Nancy J. Eckert Resource Center
Men"s Issues - Includes discussions on sexuality, continence, occupations
and employment, and relationships.
Women"s Issues - Includes discussions on sexuality, continence, relationships,
leisure activities and work.
Injectable Therapy - Frequent hands-on workshops presented by pharmaceutical
nurse specialists focus on medication advances and proper techniques for self-administration
of injectable medicine
Brown bag lunch-and-learn sessions will be scheduled throughout the year
Annual Symposium for Patients/Families - Features nationally known speaker
who discusses all aspects of MS, including research, new medications, etc.
Allied Health Professional Education - Ongoing updates for health care professionals
on advances in the diagnosis and treatment of MS
Research
As part of the Lehigh Valley Hospital"s neurosciences division, the MS Center
participates in international clinical trials of new medications and treatments
for MS. Many of these trials are key to gaining FDA approval for a new medication.
By being active in trials, we help bring the latest research to the Lehigh Valley.
Support Groups
Beth"s Group teaches exercise and relaxation/stress relief techniques, in
addition to education and support for persons with MS. The group meets the

A Well Spouse Support Group focuses on the needs of spouses and caregivers
of persons with chronic, disabling illnesses. It is affiliated with the Well
Spouse Foundation, and meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month at Lehigh
