    Program Overview:

    This program will provide a broad audience of healthcare professionals with current information about best practices in disease management and the control of the complex symptoms of multiple sclerosis. A multidisciplinary team of MS experts will critically analyze the challenges of comprehensive care. Real life cases will be used to illustrate clinical dilemmas and learners will be encouraged to participate in the discussion and interaction with the expert faculty.

    Learning Objectives:
    • Describe the pathophysiology and presentation of MS and utilize this knowledge to develop assessment skills that enhance early detection
    • Analyze the needs of the MS patient as it impacts the role of the MS healthcare team and appropriately collaborate with other team members to foster optimum patient outcomes
    • Contribute to management plans for MS patients that incorporate appropriate pharmaco-therapeutics and strategies to enhance patient adherence
    • Utilize best practice treatment strategies for the common symptoms associated with MS that include appropriate indications for referral to the MS specialist

    I. Multiple sclerosis – the disease

    1. Demographics and epidemiology
    2. Diagnosing MS: Principles and Assessment tools
    3. Clinical presentations
    4. Diagnosing MS: Paraclinical evidence and McDonald Criteria
    5. Clinical patterns of disease
    6. Prognostic indicators and standard measurements

    II. Needs of MS Patients

    1. Treatment of relapses
    2. DMT for CIS, relapsing MS, and secondary progressive MS with a focus on current disease modification along with new and emerging agents
    3. Treatment options for progressive disease
    4. Patient and family education including issues of adherence
    5. Common symptoms, medications, rehab (fatigue, spasticity, elimination dysfunction, sexual dysfunction, pain, depression, cognitive dysfunction, motor symptoms

    Accreditation and Credit Designation:

    The Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers (CMSC) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

    CMSC designates this live activity for a maximum of 4.0 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

    This Educational Activity is coprovided by the Consortium of Multiples Sclerosis Centers and Nurse Practitioner Alternatives.

    Nurse Practitioner Alternatives is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's (ANCC) Commission on Accreditation.
