Meeting Description:
All NORD Member Organizations are invited to participate in a teleconference on the Social Security Administration's Compassionate Allowances initiative on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 2 p.m. EST.

Peter Smith, a policy analyst with the U.S. Social Security Administration, will provide an overview of this initiative and will respond to questions regarding future plans, how SSA identifies diseases to add to the list, and how patient organizations can have input into this process.

Presenter Information: Peter Smith
Peter Smith is a policy analyst with the U.S. Social Security Administration. He works in the Office of Disability Programs on the agency's Compassionate Allowances initiative. Peter joined SSA in 2009 as a Presidential Management Fellow and has served in a variety of capacities throughout the agency. He has also served with the Departments of Homeland Security and Housing and Urban Development.

Peter holds a bachelor's degree and a law degree from Florida International University. He lives in Baltimore's Mount Vernon neighborhood with his wife, Liana, a high school English teacher.
